2018 Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey

The Texas Institute for Child and Family Wellbeing (TXICFW) partnered with the Ray Marshall Center (RMC) to lead the 2018 Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey. Each year, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) contracts the survey as part of an annual project.

This report summarizes child care market rate data for Texas and each of its 28 local workforce development areas. For the first time, researchers estimated market rates for child care using a combination of survey data and TWC administrative records data on approved child care subsidy rates. Researchers surveyed three types of child care facilities between October 2017 and May 2018: licensed child care centers, registered homes and licensed homes.

The Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey report is broken out into two reports. The main report contains all narrative descriptions of the survey and methods, statewide estimates of all findings, and the technical appendices. The second, supplemental report, contains all findings broken out by local board. The supplemental report is also available in spreadsheet form.
