2020 Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey

2020 Texas Child care market rate survey cover pageThe Texas Institute for Child and Family Wellbeing (TXICFW) partnered with the Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resources (RMC) to lead the 2020 Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey. Each year, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) contracts the survey.

In this year’s report, explore the rates charged to the general public (or the “market rate”) for child care between October 2019 and July 2020. The report summarizes child care market rate data for the entire state of Texas and each of its 28 local workforce development areas during this time period.

In this 2020 report, researchers used a combination of survey data and TWC administrative records data for estimates. Researchers surveyed three types of child care facilities between October 2019 and July 2020: licensed child care centers, registered homes and licensed homes. In the survey, researchers grouped licensed and registered homes together. However, the analysis separates these.

The 2020 Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey report is broken out into two reports. The main report contains all narrative descriptions of the survey and methods. Additionally, the main report includes statewide estimates of all findings and the technical appendices. The second, supplemental report, contains tables with all findings broken out by local board.
