Screen Shot 2022 08 29 at 2.58.19 PMIn the 2022 Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey report, explore the rates charged to the general public (or the “market rate”) for child care. The report summarizes data for the entire state of Texas and each of its 28 local workforce development areas between September 2021 and April 2022.

Researchers at the Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing conducted the report in collaboration with the Ray Marshall Center. Each year, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) contracts the survey as part of an annual project.

In this report, researchers estimated market rates using a combination of survey data and TWC data on published rates of providers who accept subsidies. Researchers surveyed three types of child care facilities between September 2021 and April 2022. These include licensed child care centers, registered homes and licensed homes.

A major new feature of this 2022 report is the adoption of a new child age scheme. In contrast to the scheme used previously, this scheme offers more detailed data. As a result of legislation, the new scheme utilizes eight age groups to characterize rates charged for child care. In some areas of the report, researchers found it necessary to characterize rates using the old scheme.
