The Child Welfare Education Collaboration (CWEC) invites you to consider becoming a Child Welfare Scholar. CWEC is a partnership between the Steve Hick’s School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Child Protective Services (CPS). CWEC provides support for employees enrolled in the MSSW program at the School of Social Work, prepares them for enhanced child welfare practice and provides financial support for their education,

Benefits for CPS employees who are  Child Welfare Scholars include:
  • Reimbursed full in-state tuition, books, fees, and parking for each semester the student is registered
  • Priority registration for select practice courses and electives
  • Three hours educational leave per week
Responsibilities of CPS employees who are Child Welfare Scholars include:
  • Commitment to work at CPS after graduation for four months for each semester of stipend support received
  • Employed by CPS at least 1 year, in a qualified IV-E position (e.g., CVS, FAD, PAL, Kinship, etc.)
