Honoring Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM), which recognizes the contributions and potential of people with developmental disabilities. In honor of DDAM awareness, the Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing (TXICFW) highlighted stories produced by the Heart Galleries of Texas, featuring two families making a difference in the lives of children with special needs.

Meet Bonnie and Chad Murphy, two nurses who’ve cared for several children with special needs, leading them to adopt their son Levi, who is medically fragile and requires 24-hour care.

While you’re still here, take some time to learn how the Srader family actively seeks placements for children with special needs and leads support groups in their community, hoping to inspire others to step up and do the same.

As DDAM comes to an end, TXICFW hopes the contributions, and potential of people and children with developmental disabilities continue to be recognized by society, not only during March but in daily life.
