Medical Examinations Project

Project Overview

Led by TXICFW researcher Dr. Monica Faulkner and sponsored by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas (CACTX), this project sought to explore low rates of medical exams for child abuse victims. The research team used mixed methods, with CACTX administering a comprehensive review of current practices regarding child abuse medical evaluations. These data indicate the areas for improvement in the forensic process and identify strategies to increase access to quality care for child maltreatment victims.
