Spark Program

Spark Program

The University of Texas Spark Program wants to empower former foster youth by providing necessary support systems to attend the university! Spark serves as a resource to help students build meaningful personal and professional relationships that are important to success.

Spark is a new program located at the Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing within the School of Social Work.  In partnership with Horns Helping Horns, Spark has created a network of support to assist current and potential college students who have experienced foster care to achieve educational success.

Ignite Support

College transition can go more smoothly with a plan. We help youth navigate the application process, learn how to be successful in school, and ask the right questions – even if not planning to attend the University of Texas!  Spark can connect you with liaisons that can walk you through the process for financial aid, answer questions about scholarships and grants, and learn about what is available to students at your school of choice. The program is open to all high school students and beyond – anyone interested in attending college – including 2-year or 4-year schools.

Spark Success

Often, new students don’t know who they can reach out to for assistance. Here at the University of Texas Spark works closely with Horns Helping Horns and is the link to campus resources for foster care alumni!  We offer year round services for Spark Longhorn students. While you are in college you will be studying hard and we want to help you live life to the fullest and stay on track to success.

The Spark team wants to help you connect with the best career services during school and after graduation.  As a UT Spark student we will help you with find on campus jobs and assist with preparing you for employment, internships, job fairs, and more!

The Austin community has many resources for students, but it can be hard to find the right place to go when you need help. SPARK will help ensure that you are connected to the resources you need.
