Welcome to Erika Settles, the new Permanency Training Coordinator!
We recently caught up with Erika Settles to learn more about her! Erika is joining TXICFW as our Permanency Training Coordinator. We are so excited to work with her!
Hi Erika! Tell us a little bit about your past work.
I have 12 years of experience at Child Protective Services. Most recently, I supervised new staff and social work stipend students in a regional onboarding program I helped develop. I have also been an adoption supervisor as well as a conservatorship caseworker and supervisor. I am passionate about youth-driven permanency, keeping families together, and maintaining cultural connections and identities within the context of foster care and adoption.
What excites you or interests you most about the work you do?
I love reading about the latest child welfare research and learning from the lived experiences of youth involved in the system. The work is constantly evolving, and learning is ongoing. Being willing to look at things from new perspectives and flip the switch on how we do things is exciting.
What is something you hope to achieve in your career?
I would love to see it become common practice for foster and adoptive parents to bridge connections with biological families, nurturing an environment where children can securely embrace their multifaceted identities.
What are some of your personal hobbies?
Reading, writing, hiking, traveling, and listening to live music.
