Welcome to Monica Romo, our new Senior Program Coordinator!
We recently caught up with Monica Romo, one of our newest TXICFW team members, to learn more about her! Monica is the new Girasol Senior Program Coordinator. We are so excited to have her on the team!
Hi Monica! Tell us a little bit about your past work.
I have spent most of my career providing direct services to unaccompanied immigrant children. Being a social worker has allowed me to support and advocate for children and families during some of the most difficult times in their lives. I’ve had the privilege of working with children from many countries and cultural backgrounds who have taught me many important lessons about resiliency and hope.
What excites you or interests you most about the work you do?
I am most excited about this position because it will allow me to promote the rights and humanity of immigrant children and families while challenging injustice and creating systems that address some of the many unmet needs of immigrant populations.
What is something you hope to achieve in your career?
I hope to help build a more just immigration system that honors and uplifts the humanity and dignity of all immigrants and refugees.
What are some of your personal hobbies?
I love spending time playing and exploring with my daughter, it gives me the opportunity to see and experience the world through her eyes. I enjoy listening to podcasts, cooking, and visiting new places.
