Children with Special Health Care Needs Technical Assistance Project
Project Overview
The Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Technical Assistance Project is a joint effort between the Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing (TXICFW) and Texas Center for Disability Studies (TCDS). The project receives funding from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This 3-year capacity-building project aims to improve access to family supports and community resources for CSHCN and their families in underserved areas in Texas.
Background of CSHCN Program
The Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant supports activities helping CSHCN and their families become included, participating members of their communities. In part, the grant accomplishes this by partnering with agencies across Texas providing Family Supports and Community Resources (FSCR). FSCR can include services such as inclusive recreational activities, wellness activities, family education, parent support groups, sibling support groups, resource fairs, emergency preparedness, respite, and transition education. Through this project, TXICFW aims to improve access to FSCR in communities not currently served by a DSHS partner. Our team will partner with organizations that have strong connections in their communities and offer supportive services to children and families. In addition, TXICFW will provide individualized technical assistance and capacity building training to each organization. Ultimately, this will allow them to achieve success in providing FSCR services, as appropriate, for their community.
